In January 2021 we launched the vision for the year ahead. Nehemiah says to King Artaxerxes “send me to the city…that I might rebuild it.” (Nehemiah 2:5)” This is our heart’s cry for 2021 and a commission given to us by Jesus himself in John 20:21 “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” This is the year for us to be sent to the city. There are four main themes that shape the outworking of this vision for us as we begin rebuilding together.
We’re looking forward to the day when we can all gather together once again, hoping and praying that we will see that day in 2021. In the meantime there are opportunities for us to continue to build community.
This year we will open a café in the new building. With a Café manager joining the staff team and refurbishments coming to completion we’re excited to have a space for the whole community to be together connecting with people.
We’ve all felt the benefits of being able to have church online in our homes over the past year. As we think about gathering together again the reality is that people out with Aberdeen have joined our church and count King’s as their home. We’re looking to build a team that will connect, serve and pastor our new online community.
In March 2020 we had Craig Johnson the founder and director of Champions Club come and share his heart and vision with us. Champions club is a ministry for special needs children. We have two rooms set aside to create the very first Champions Club in Scotland, with a state-of-the-art sensory room being installed in the coming months.
In 2021 our vision is to launch a discipleship journey that is clear and systematic to give every person the route map to help them discover, grow and go deeper in their faith. Our aim is to expand our Connect Group model to also include a variety of groups and opportunities to take courses, from life application such as finance and parenting to going deeper in our faith such as Bible studies and theology courses. We’re beginning to build a team to come alongside people to help them in their discipleship journey and to help deliver the programme.
For several years we have been on a journey with the local authority to take responsibility for a disused building in the heart of the community of Torry. With the documentation due to be signed in early 2021 and a Centre Manager now in post we are excited to begin the refurbishment of this centre and begin reaching out to the community there, believing that there are many destinies that will be changed through this work.
